The Fear Of The Lord Part 3

Deuteronomy 17:18-20  “… it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book, from the one before the priests, the Levites. And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes, that his heart may not be lifted above his brethren, that he may not turn aside from the commandment to the right hand or to the left, and that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children in the midst of Israel.”

Deuteronomy 28:58-59  “If you do not carefully observe all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, THE LORD YOUR GOD, then the Lord will bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary plagues–great and prolonged plagues–and serious and prolonged sicknesses.”

Deuteronomy 31:12-13  “Gather the people together, men and women and little ones, and the stranger who is within your gates, that they may hear and that they may learn to fear the Lord your God and carefully observe all the words of this law, and that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in the land which you cross the Jordan to possess.”

It is very hard to let go of the desire to have the last word in everything that we do, so GOD is forced to Hold us on a ‘tight reign’. He Knows from experience that giving unlimited power to us would cause us to become despotic and evil. (Jeremiah 4:23-27) He Learned from that pre-Adamic race that without His HOLY SPIRIT To Guide and Empower us, His enemies would pervert the hearts of people, and cause them to become degenerate and selfish. The sad fact is, even after GOD Sent His Only Begotten Son To Pay the penalty for the sins of humanity, most people still esteem themselves more highly than they should.

I said most… not all…   🙂
