Growing In Grace Part 15

Hebrews 12:28  … since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.

Hebrews 13:8-9b  Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace…

James 4:1-8,10  Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”? But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

There is a saying in the Church that goes like this…   “There are just two choices on the shelf… serving GOD or serving self.” Our fleshly lusts are hard to overcome. As a matter of fact, some of them are impossible for us to defeat in our own strength, because we enjoy them so much. We must come to an hour of reckoning in our Life; to decide between holiness (serving GOD), and carnal sensuality (serving self). If we choose GOD’s Way, we must also give up our pride, since we cannot be holy without GOD’s HOLY SPIRIT to Empower us.

Let’s face it, for us to give up something that we enjoy doing requires us to care about Someone (GOD) more than we care about ourselves. It comes down to who (Who) we have more love (Love) and respect for; and there’s no doubt about it…                                            it’s our decision that defines who we are in GOD’s Creation
